Take home a 12″ wood base painted and decorated in the Lippan style using clay and cut mirrors to make a mandala design! By the end of this workshop, you will have learnt how to plan your design – symmetrical or free style, how to mold and shape the clay using tools and embellishing the art piece with precut mirrors. Display hardware will be provided.
What is Lippan art? Originally from Kutch, on the west coast of India, this art style is found on the walls of homes. Clay is made with materials found in the environment and the exterior and interior walls of homes are decorated with these designs and mirrors. I work on wood bases which are first painted, then measured for design and symmetry. Clay is molded, designed and stuck and then the piece is embellished with cut mirrors.
