Inspired by Madhubani motifs and Lippan art with the clay and cut mirrors, this piece fuses two of the oldest folk art styles from India.

Madhubani derives from the word 'Madhu', meaning honey and 'Bani' meaning forest, therefore Forest of Honey.

Traditionally, a mural form of art, only women painted in this style during celebrations in the community, but now male artists have become well known too.

The fish (machli) and the tree, connected, as the land is with water, the interconnectedness of time and space and the gentle albeit fierce balance in nature..

Fish, symbols of fetility and proliferation of life,  are drawn in a very decorative manner in Madhubani. Drawn with detailed geometric and intricate lines along the entire body of the fish to imbibe the sense of movement and beauty.

Enhanced with a beautiful border of hand moulded clay and inserted mirrors, like a crocheted pattern, this piece comes with a built in frame.

Painted on high quality water color paper with water color, acrylics and calligraphy ink, it shimmers with a hint of pearlescent, making the piece ascend from different angles.

The addition of cut mirrors only enhances the simple beauty of this art piece.

The water color paper has been adhered to a Grade A Birch wood base and has a saw tooth picture hanger attached on the back for easy display,

This unique piece will not be replicated.

Size : 12" X 16”

Maintainance :

Gently dust with a dry cloth only when necessary. Water can cause the clay to soften and the inks to run.
